Somewhere over the Rainbow Guam Santa waits for me

It was a chilly day here on Guam Christmas morning down to 78 degrees and a little cloudy. But i braved it all and went to sit on the deck at my favorite coffee shop and as i was sipping my mocha coffee and nibbling on a bagel and egg BLT. What should appear but this rainbow, i knew what that meant. It was a sign to go see Guam St Nick aka: beach Claus.
So i jumped on The old Diablo Nissan and sure enough there was the surfer dude waiting for me with open arms. But i must sadly say he told me i had to wait until next year to get my two wishes. 1. Can't go here but you know!!!! 2. Is a 1957 Golden Hawk which Santa assured me that if my ex=wives and children didn't get for me! They would be dropped from the list forever.
So i say to all of yous Exes and relativity's Dudes where's my car?
Also for those of you who were concerned about the weather, I'm okay it warmed up to 85 by 10:00 am. But it did sprinkle a little while i was on my way too the holiday feast.

past life baggage

I have been accused at times for having a lot of bagage from my past. So when i seen this on the internet i thought i would try and find one of these to carry it in. It's called an Ex-wife trailer but i think i can fit the rest of in if i add a canopy. If you happen to see one for sale let me know.

A View from A Lanai

Not to be satisfied with just one patio to dine on, it was time to check out the sunset grill's Lania style dinning for lunch. And see if the rumors of it's pulled pork sandwiches were correct.

After a big dish of smoked oysters and crackers and a great sandwich and potato salad (sorry weight watchers i ate the mayo) and cool non-adult beverage. What more could one ask for than to sit back and enjoy the view from a lania (patio to you landlocked ocean deprived folks) while a group of folks froliced in the water and on the beach. I may never be able to eat in a chain resturant again, this is way better than a view of a parking lot.

And to make the day complete it was back to the Barrista for mocha latte's on the patio for sunset. Life is good in the gypsy world.

Breakfast at teh beach

At last a nice little place on the beach to get a good Mocha Latte, a Sunday paper and a real Bagelwich breakfast. Without going for a 30 minute drive or giving up your wallet. So after much talk about the new place i parked El Diablo, and waltzed in this morning to check it out.

Great suprise, all that i wanted. Now i know you other beach hounds that live on the coast somewhere will not be super impressed. And sorry landlocked folks i hate too show this too you. It is after all my daily view. Except now i get my bagel and get to eat it too.

Ain't nuthing like the real thing baby, islands in the dreams. Coffe with whipped cream, and you can munch on a "bagelll" That is what it are.

This old house a blast from the past

The year is 1976 a young couple, two young kids, the best dog ever (queenie the big poodle) and an old mansion on the hill. And a husband/father who's a born gypsy working from life change number 12 Maintenece Supt. at a mop factory headed for number 13.

The place Atchison,Kansas The house a former town biggies house from the late 20s. Six bedrooms upstairs, a den, a parlor, a formal room and a huge kitchen with pantry down stairs. A basement with a coal room, a cold pantry, (ya gotta be a Midwesterner to know that one) and two other rooms for laundry and other things. Hardwood floors, sliding wall doors to shut of the parlor and the formal room. Those cool counter weight windows, and an endless front porch which is now much reduced. Hardwood floors, wallpaper, and painted plaster walls. what more could one ask for. Why to own it of course, we didn't and the day came when the owner wanted it back for relatives.

So it was off to Nortonville and a house one third this size with a garden and an addition of a blind St Bernard just before life change number 13. Which required a month of running behind and collapsing on a pickup bed. Can a 34 year old run the mile in under nine minutes I wanna be a Fire Fighter baby. Hell yes he did, much to the dismay of all those 27 and under lads who couldn't.

Now I'm at life change whatever and after returning to Guam from a short business trip and a little after hours side trip down memory lane that was in the area. I have too put up with this view. and a two room apartment. Yeah baby i got the gypsy in me!

No matter what i drive chicks want a ride

No sooner had i rode into town on ol Betsy this chick wanted to ride post on down to the local banana and guava stand for a cool smoothie. Nothing i like better than a smooth pickup line like that. I said sure hop on babe, but she declined and just walked along beside me, admiring my style and checking her pockets for drink change. Hey whats an alpha male gonna do? Why treat her to some surf of course

After a little over a month the package arrived to my Gkids stamped spindled and slightly mutilated. Now i was going to send the mail coconuts as a postcard just like i did once before to others. But no i listened to the friendly postman. better if you send them in a box prioity mail. They'll get there faster, two weeks at the most. So $35.00 in stamps and almost two months later. Sure enough the Hafi Dai coconut greetings arrived. And the wild childs hit the box running, and as soon as they started playing baseball with them so was the dad.

Next i think Commoro war clubs, but i think i'll try regular mail this air mail stuff is working like S/S it's there somewhere we just don't know when you'll get.

Hafi Dai munchkins from da island and the Guamies. Enjoy the touch of paradise.

Bud girls and dragstrip

Ahh those bud girls they're everywhere, didn't get my picture taken with them this time.Too much compatition from the Korean Navy. After about 15 minutes of watching i'd seen enough, at least for the first trip by.
A little get my motor running shotof things from the past. All that was missing was that sweet smell of nitro and burnt rubber. And of course that beautifull noise of the exhaust and the whine of the blower belt. You know i'd like to take it too the limit one more time.

barf dogs comments

It's saturday on the beach and now that i've seen the bear. i think it is appropriate to sing my favorite song to my kids, gkids and ggkids.

if you go out in the woods today your in for a big suprise
Because todays the day the teddy bears have thier picnic

J liked this song so much from his young days he searched it
down and bought me the record.

I'm kind curious why however since i have no record palyer.
I'd think he'd have kept it to play on Sat. morning since i'm not there

And i know that T would love to hear it when she visits.

But then maybe they and mummsie do a sing along instead to the new kiddies on the block.

Sitting on the edge of the bay

This bear has turned to stone (IE: the name of this point bear rock) and sit on the edge of the bay endlessly looking out to sea. So one wonders how did the bear get to Guam, why was he turned to stone, and how in a bear less country did they know it was a bear?
Now somewhere in the mist of the sea and the talk story legends of Guam and the Pacific there must be a a story about this bear and his/her endless vigil through rain, sun, and fog on the edge of the bay the begining of the sea.
Longing for a voyage, a return of a voyage, do bears pine for love, a jar of honey, or did it not dance right at the circus? Anybody got one?

Retirement age+1

Well I've made it to retirement age, and lived one day more. Who'd a thunk. When i was born so was this Studebaker. While i was generating smelly diapers (yes Alice diapers, those things mom's loved to wash. pampers we don need no stinkin pampers) this Studebaker was on the road to Taj Mahal. perhaps that's what gave me my gypsy ways.

So here i am in the wilds? of Guam chasing stude rumors, enjoying life and laughing and singing in the rain. Done worrying about wars, gas, taxes, and politics. I may still be working but i'm retiring from the care circus. I'm in Studebaker mode now, and the rest? Why worry i'm busy looking for parts.

Guam main street and Studebakers

MAIN STREET AGANU GUAM 1954
10 years after liberation from the Japanese, this is what main street Guam looked like. What i like best about this photo is that to the conisuer of fine automobiles there is at least 3 Studebakers in the street two cars and one M series pickup (no i'm not counting that 54 dodge P/U). No telling how many is in the parking lot. I'm still trying to track down the rumored 53 coupe and a picture of the Studebaker dealership. (which was also a gas sation and tourist shop)
Monday is Guams Independence day as they were liberated on July 21st 1944. The preperations have been going on for three weeks. And it will be a big event one i will miss unfortunatly as wwe do not have the day off. Of course i could always oversleep the entire main highway is closed all day.

Red Horse Unit old Army Eng. HD 16 Memory Lane

Today being the 5th of July for me was good for a walk in the park down At Asan beach. And a tour of the Indepedence day displays set up there. One of which was this old Army Eng. HD 16 Allis Chalmers Dozer that the Red Horse Squadron (The Air force Construction Folks) along with all thier other modern equipments. Such as self erectiong buildings and fast concrete runway repair machinery, and other trick items that replace the sore back and the pick and shovel.
Of course for me this was another walk down memory lane, as i've spent a few hours working on these puppies and it's relatives like the HD 20 and 21. With thier switch over to the Budda engine after buying out that company. They became a dozer to be reckoned with, and the power war was on. But the early models had one big advantage over Cat! No pony motor, which ment easy starting.
But they couldn't overcome the bad rep from the 40's with the trans and final drive problems. And like the much villified International and those nasty green machines who's name we will not say. (i'm afriad of the Beattle Juice syndrome) they kind of faded away. But it's still nice to see one now and then. what say you John A. do you miss em?

I guess i will

There i was peacefully slaving away at paper work, meeting, phonecalls every five seconds. And trying to update reports that can't seemed to be made by a five million dollar computer system with a mouse click. (don't ya ever wonder how a computer can fly a plane but can't make a report data in but it can't come out) And as i was just about to finish reading page three hundred and ninety seven of a one thousand page government volume on proper chain use.

What happens, i get interupted by a co-worker with a smile on his face and a map in his hand. "DARN IT I WAS JUST GETTING TO THE GOOD PART about color codes"

How about joining me and my family at the beach Sunday, we're having a picnic and we're just all going out there and relax. relax, beach, ice tea, okay "i guess i will" but i hope i can finish this manual first, i just can't wait to see how it ends.

Another Studebaker on Guam

So far all attempt to track down the rumored 53 coupe have been to no avail. Although i did find a 49 chop top merc. Then i started talking about war stuff on Guam and a co-worker said i have a friend that is building a museum. After naming some other stuff the word Weasel popped up. As did my ears, you mean a real live Studebaker weasel. Huh said he Studebaker i didn't know. So off we went and sure enough there she sat a little rough, a few things missing, but a real live running weasel. Not if i can only get to drive it. Or the 1941 Indian scout a few feet away. Click on link below and see what she looked like new. The 53 coupe maybe next time.

After work in the jungle

After a short Saturday slaving away at the office and a yummy Bento Box lunch of BBQ Chicken and tempura shrimp. Compliments of one of the co-workers who unlike me stayed longer to work harder.

The sman snuck out the back Jack and hit it on the lam for a cruse up a new road. Behold a sign that said Tamo Falls and botanical garden. With a screech of the brakes and an illegal u-turn (hey I'm learning local customs back off). It was off to the falls and flowers, 200 stairs and jungle trails, and a nervous eye out for them legendary brown tree snakes. I got to the falls $5.00 poorer but well worth it all. I love waterfalls and this one was way cool.

But i kept hearing all these strange noises, a mix of drums and birds singing, and squeaks, all very musical almost like a Jamaican band warming up in a distance. i finally tracked it down. It was a small grove of bamboo some new some old and some dried. And when the wind blew through it the music began. Something new singing Bamboo.

What a great place to go for some peace and quiet, and a little communing with mother nature. Unfortunately i had to commune this time with my clothes on.

If your ever in the neighborhood don't pass this one up. It's a short walk and its worth the $5.00

How you commune is your choice.

The smartest man on Guam

Every night i and a major portion of the 170,00 residents of Guam. Jump in our guzzle mobiles and rush onto the main highway for home. Russian roulette at it's best, as Guam is know as the red light runner capitol of the world. And it is often safer to join in than it is to apply brakes, because the guy behind usually has his mind made up about what he's going to do. "run that light" Which also becomes the number two fame item rear end collisions.

Then theirs that gas price thing now at $4.69 a gallon maybe more in the morning. Keeping your tank full can defiantly be a cost savings.

On my way home i often see the smartest man on Guam. He has moved up too the modern times while the rest of us continue to blindly rush to and fro paying little heed to whats worth seeing along the way and throwing endless amounts of money to Ahab the Arab. This guy just cruses on and does it with natural air and uses no gas.

Katties calf is found

For those of you who don't know Kattie she is a long term resident of Columbus Georgia. And reins over the freeway next to the usurpers of her pasture a best Buy store.

Bad enough that poor Kattie must live in a parking lot, but she has also had to endure the indignity of someone stealing her calf.

All those who have suffered anxiety and worry can now drive down there and tell Kattie that the sman has found her little Darling in Tumon, Guam. And she is doing well.
However there is a caribou that lives just down the street and dresses funny that has his eye on her. Hopefully Lil Kattie won't be having any Carimoos anytime soon.

Yep Alice it's a real live coconut crab with no bands on them claws. Not me brudder. This is one big crab. About thirty or forty years old. Yummy yum. But this one is sort of a pet so it wasn't for sale. Farmers market and festival at the Chommoro village on Wed. More from the rim of the volcano later.

This bad boy was tied up at Fort Soledad. My first thought was maybe i could get too ride him. But since he wasn't too pleased about me walking toward him to take a picture. I decide i wasn't going to let him HORN into my life. Some other time.

The killer rock at lovers point

In 2001 during my first trip to Guam i climbed up this rock to take pictures from the top (Lovers point they call it).

When i got up there i discovered there was a bench so i sat down to enjoy the view and take my pictures

Little did i know that i would get some kind of coral in the skin of my rear that turned onto septic poisoning about a week later. It came close to being the end of me by a matter of hours.

Ad took two weeks of massive anti-biotics every four hours around the clock. By that time i had taken so much and so many of them i had an allergic reaction and had to be saved again with more drugs.

So when i got back here the first place i wanted to visit was killer rock. No old rock got nothin on me.
