Sitting on the edge of the bay

This bear has turned to stone (IE: the name of this point bear rock) and sit on the edge of the bay endlessly looking out to sea. So one wonders how did the bear get to Guam, why was he turned to stone, and how in a bear less country did they know it was a bear?
Now somewhere in the mist of the sea and the talk story legends of Guam and the Pacific there must be a a story about this bear and his/her endless vigil through rain, sun, and fog on the edge of the bay the begining of the sea.
Longing for a voyage, a return of a voyage, do bears pine for love, a jar of honey, or did it not dance right at the circus? Anybody got one?

Im thinking that it just got tired of swabbing the deck and jumped ship to get drunk.

Then the ship along with the other bears sailed without him. And the captain bear probably had a thing for his true love and was happy he was stuck on Guam.

Now the poor bear sat so long wistfully gazing out to see that the salt spray preserved him and he turned to stone.

gazing ever after out to see wiating for his love to come back.

That or he was a worthless grump and his mates threw him overboard. And he's waiting to get even.
