Off i go headed towards Death Valley and odd spot along the way. Soon find that Nevada gas prices makes California prices look good. And their bad roads sure are still the same, narrow and crappy. Hmmmm. Soon the skyline of vegas is gone, and the prison of Indian Springs. and the magic revitalized Creech AFB comes into view, high fences and drone hangers. Have replaced tho old Army and A/F of nuke the desert day's, and much of the base side of the town is blocked off and abandoned, left in place buildings and RV & picnic areas. On a stretch lined with jersey barriers and warning signs. Only the samll casino has been left UN-siezed. There went my breaky stop under the pines.

No more picnic stop here, Thanks Gov. On and forward we go headed for the fine little village of Nipton, Which as it turns out rarely has anything open, including the Motel? I did arouse the curiosity of one live person who got his raptor fired up and drove the 75 feet to where i was, to let me know these facts. When i asked for directions to the ghost mine, he was dumbfounded to learn there was one close by. Time to move on.
No ghost mine to be seen today, road closed to all but residents due to fire fighter vehicle traffic. No worries, i'll catch the next open pass, which as it turns out is Tioga pass. So it's cross road time just outside of Hawthorne/ Walker lake area.with a short travel interruption of a drive by Cat House tour in Chyrstal. Then onward to the pass.with a short stop in Benton for a tailgate meal.
Supper and the downhill side of Tioga Pass
Not a very exciting drive so far, but pleasant enough to enjoy. Are you bored yet? next up Death Valley and Scottys castle. Where my plans get change again. Life is good when your a flexible flyer. |
