It seemed like a good idea, a quiet weekend drive to Gammon's Gulch and old west movie set out in the far reaches of the southeast dessert. And a good time to try out Ol Rojo my new truck All was well until i drove thru that stop sign while carrying on a conversation and indulging in day dreams about Prague and a possible return visit . (no paint, small children or nefarious animals or fauna were injured in the filming of this mine movie mishap). But my pride was slightly damaged.
Falling slightly back in the pack we continued on to our destination over hill and across a wash or five until we arrived at the front gate. Where my photo op with Rojo went south when it was announced that new vehicles were not allowed on the grounds. So i was hoof and shank with the load of picnic gear and the required five or so electronic devices needed to function in life nowadays.
I'm not sure where i went wrong, i only informed the crowd of two or three things that we should do before we left. But things got a little ugly and i found myself with some new attire, a necktie.
It was only through the pleadings of M who declared please don't hang him. Although he is my insignificant other. I don't know where he hid the keys to the truck and i ain't helping ya get rid of the body. leadership!!! it always has a price.
After a nice picnic lunch and some local entertainment, we all gathered at the hotel for a photo op, with the Studebakers that made the drive.
And then each Studebaker got to visit the 1900s gas station
And so comes an end to another good adventure, as we all made our way home on the Arizona highways on a nice fall day. You too can enjoy this place either as individuals or a group, just be sure to call before hand to make sure nobodies using it for a film location that day. Take lunch, do the tour and picnic under the trees or in the saloon. Enjoy the peace and quiet and a visit to the past. Each building is filled with real period pieces.
