The Schloss Hochst my castle home 1961-1963

During my various life changes i have lived over a dry cleaners, in a tar papered shack by the Kickapoo Creek (our warm weather bathtub), behind a Tavern, a million dollar loft apartment, and various other adobes. One fairy tale like living quarters while stationed in Germany with AFN (Armed Forces Network) was a room in the old part of the Castle Hochst, complete with Moat and watch tower. Hot in the Summer cold in winter, nothing like a stone building too give you a taste of changing seasons. This part is the old guard quarters, the main part of the old castle where the Von Brueanings lived was destroyed by fire and only the cellar remains.
Although forbidden by commanders rules, the view from the top of that tower is awesome. If the climb up that circular stairway don't kill you. But a Teutonic fraulien, a couple of bottles of Binding Bier, some brochen and bludwurts und kerfuffle salat and that view make for one hell of a picnic.

This is the view from the side which shows the new part of the castle which housed the AFN broadcast station and AFN club . Here's a panoramic view of the grounds, which includes a view from the top of the wall of the river and Schloss Platz (park)

A view of the town from the river, Hochst is the home of one of the IG Farben chemical plants of WWII infamy. Strangely enough no bombs were dropped on this town or the plant.
