I went on a sudden out the back jack holiday to Siapan this weekend. and the last thing i went to see was the top of this mountain. It took thirty minutes of driving on a rock and coral road that wound to the top. It is just under 1,600 feet high, but i cannot imagine the hell that the soldiers went through during the battle for it. The last hundred feet was by stairs and rocky pathway that just about ruined this old goat.

There is not a lot left of the historic battles, a few artillery peices, the last command post, and some bunkers. But many of the caves still exist, and you can see the pock marks from the ships guns as they tried to elimante as many as possable before the troops went ashore. Still 2,000 Americans died during that landing. And the worst was yet to come. I have been to Pelilu, Kwajalien, Roi Namur, and many more of these pacific battle grounds and many in Europe, the middle east and Asia. One can only admire the bravery that goes with that first step into harms way

At least you made the stairs and lived to tell about it !. I doubt that many of your wishes will come true, I don't think Santa has the money to grant you all of them, but who knows maybe the ex's and the relatives will hit it big after Tues., inaugration ?????
